SkyPirate.net was "launched" exclusively as a rocketry site in March of 2001. The A-kon Cosplay Gallery was added in August of 2003. The artwork was created August 9. A primary goal, was that the design would avoid stereotypical anime images and strive for more of a eurostyle appearance. It would say, “cosplay” without the anime, focusing on the people, who make cosplay what it is. Layout would adhere to the dimensions of my rocketry site and a color coding system would distinguish each year.
Although not identical, I began to notice that Apple's iPod silhouette ads, which started running October 9, had a somewhat similar appearance, but is purely coincidental.
